This week, We will wrap up our series on “Servanthood” An introspect of our Christian virtues. We began with Paul’s Pastoral letters to the servants of the gospel about Word and Deed (2 Timothy 2:14-15), Doing what is admirable, and using edifying speech. He talks about discernment, Making decisions by viewing everything through the lens of the Holy Spirit, and the importance of continuing to mature in our faith.
(2Timothy 2:14-15) Remind them of these things, charging them before God not to fight about words, this is in no way profitable and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 zBe diligent to present yourself to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth
He issues a stern warning to the co-workers to create distance between themselves and the citizens of Corinth and all of their trappings. He reminds them of their responsibility to complete their assignments.
(2 Corinthians 6:14) Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? or what fellowship has light have with darkness? ESV
We resonate with Paul’s messages as these circumstances are very relevant today. His message, To get back to doing the work we were called to do. Finally, We examine in
and reason with one another on our perception of Good Work, What it is, and what it’s not:
Good works” Action, or Attitude of worship?

(James 2:14-17) What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of them says,” Go in peace, be warmed and filled, without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
As James illustrates, It was Abraham’s obedience that caused his faith to grow, which in-turn gained God’s favor-He moved ahead without understanding God’s reasoning (Genesis 22:2-11). Good works is an Act of Kindness-Approaching others from a point of benevolence-Doing for others without return, and without pomp and circumstance.
(Hebrews 13:16) Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13 appeals to acts of benevolence-Doing what is honorable. In fact, This chapter opens with the most profound piece of scripture regarding works: (13:1-2) Let brotherly love continue. 2 Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this sone have welcomed angels as guest without knowing it.
Good works is an act of Obedience that ignites our faith. Our good works cannot get us into heaven (Luke 10:38-41), The “Fruit” of our good works does: (John 6: 27-29) Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the good works of God? Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in whom he has sent
Our works do not earm us brownie points to get into heaven any more than being good makes us anymore acceptable (Ephesians 2:8) For ye are saved by grace through faith; and this is not of yourselves; It is a gift. Your thoughts…
