CLEANING HOUSE (2 Kings 23:3)
3 The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord-to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes, and decrees with all his heart and soul, thus confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant NIV
Parallel:(2 Chronicles 34:29-39) 29 Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30 And the king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests and the Levites, all people both great and small
In his eighteenth year, Josiah began putting the affairs of the house of the Lord in order-Beginning with repair and restoration of the structure (2:3-7), And overall cleansing.
He had called for an assembly of all priests and citizens of Jerusalem, Benjamin, and Judea for the purpose of renewing the covenant of the Lord, With the Lord. To start, there must be reform: (2:23:4) The king ordered the high priest, the priests next in rank and the doorkeepers to remove from the temple of the Lord all articles made for Baal and Asherah and all starry hosts. He burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron Valley and took the ashes to Bethel ( Threw its dust onto graves of common people HCSB) Practices instituted by previous kings included: Idol worship (Baal, Asherah), burning of incense in the temple, prostitution, witch craft-All of these along with idolatrous priest had been removed.
As he stood near the pillar(1 Kings 7: 15-21, 2Kings 11:14a), he re-dedicates the temple back to the Lord, and caused All inhabitants to renew their vows of the covenant with the Lord, and to keep the commands.
So What? How does this apply to me?:
Nuclear submarines are designed to carry out tasks, and function below the surface of the water. Every now and then, the ship needs to re-surface and re-calibrate itself to the earths azimuth to ensure its coordinates are always correct. The purpose of this message is to cause us to resurface and recalibrate our spiritual compasses with the Lord-Self examining, and Cleansing ourselves of any idols that might cause us to go off track.
“Hunger and Thirsting for the Righteousness of the Lord”
(Matthew 5:6) Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed, for they are filled
Deuteronomy 18:15 cites Moses as being fore shadower of Christ-The New Moses- The promised prophet (Acts 7:37). Parallels in both the book of Exodus, and Matthew, point to the two events as prophecy fulfilled (Jn 1:17) 17 for the law was given through Moses, grace and truth through Jesus Christ. The two were intrinsic, meaning, each one impacted the other (Hebrews 9:15) Therefore, He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance, because a death has taken place for redemption from transgressions committed under the first covenant. Therefore, the Ten Commandments are viewed as a backdrop to the Beatitudes.
(Matthew 5:6) Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are blessed, for they are filled
Of all the vitues in the Beatitudes, We will focus on the Righteousness of the Lord-What it is, and What it should look like. The “imputed” righteousness of the Lord is an Undeserving Gift from the Lord, that came at a very high price (Isaiah 53: ) By His stripes were are healed..
The righteousness of the Lord is our unmerited favor with the Lord that sets us aside as lamps for the kingdom-It is Not implied and certainly not an entitlement of our salvation (Romans 10:4,5) For Christ is the end of the law of righteousness to everyone who believes. 5 For Moses writes about righteousness that is from the law; The one who does these things will live by them.
Our Righteousness is an Act of Obedience that is found in Him only: (Jn 6:47,48) 47″I assure you: Anyone who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. It doesn’t come from ourselves (Matthew 5:20) ,For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees you will never get to heaven
“The Final Judgement” (Matthew 25:31-46)
31When the Son on Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on His glorious throne.32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people from one another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on his left
Matthew 25:31-46 This parable is a passage in Christian eschatology-The description of the final judgement as illustrated in the Book of Revelation. Jesus Christ, the Mediator will come in his own glory and in the Full Glory of the Father to separate the sheep from the goats-The accursed from the saints(25:31-32).
Will we be judged by good works? (26:6) We will be judged on our obedience and readiness; Our Expectancy to receive the King, and our redemption. We will be judged on the condition of our hearts: (25:35a) For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me….While we are commanded to do our Good Works, it is impossible to gain entry into the kingdom according to Scripture: (Ecclesiastes 1:2,3) “Absolute futility,” says the Teacher. “Absolute futility. Everything is futile.” 3 What does a man gain from his efforts that he labors under the sun? God said so: (Ephesians2:8) For by grace you have been saved, not by works…
Would you be ready when the bridegroom comes?
This judgement is final, and eternal: (Matthew 25:34) Then the King will say to those on the right, ‘Come, you are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom for you from the foundation of the world. (25:46) And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

“I don’t have a a Religion, I have a Relationship” The first arrow to be drawn from our quiver when our faith is questioned, and compared to worldly beliefs. Excellent response, except there is no meat on the bones, No conviction behind our statement. So, Do we really understand the power behind the ministry and finished work of Christ, Do we harness, and possess that power in our faith-walk? Aren’t the basic premise of relationships built on Trust-believing without question that your partner will do as they say, and Bonding-being united in spirit?
Three events unfolded that created a trust and a bond for all who would believe to enter into a relationship with God the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit-Three events that forever set Christianity apart from all world religions:
“God Felt”(Acts 1:9) After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight. We serve a Living God. A God who experienced the emotion of welcoming His son back into the heavens.
“The chasm was bridged” (Hebrews 8:1) Now the main point of what is being said is this: We have this kind of high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens Through the obedience of the Son, man was given access to the Father [Matthew 9:21] The “Temple Veil”
Man experienced God through the Spirit (Jn 16:7) Finally, the ascension underscored the fact that Jesus had given His apostles a mission as His ambassadors God would empirically inhabit man through the Spirit (Acts 2:4) Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and begun to speak in different languages as the Spirit gave them the ability for speech. Blessings
Son of Man spoke to Jesus’ Divinity-God incarnate (Matthew 2:21-23) 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. 22 Now this all took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will call Him Emmanuel, which is translated ” God with us.”
(Luke 9:51) When the days were coming to a close for Him to be taken up, He determined to journey to Jerusalem
His delineation as “Son of Man” did not minimize His deity(Jn 8:58), But affirmed who He was by the many miracles He had performed during His earthy ministry: (Mark 2:10-11) 10 But so you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, He told the paralytic, 11 ” I tell you, pick up your mat and go home.”
(Matthew 16:14, Mk 8:28) “Who do you say I am?”Jesus never said,”I am God, you must worship Me,” His nature was one of humility. (Philippians 2:6-8) 6 who existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God, as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself and when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death- And just as those who understood the parables, those who truly had a heart for Him knew who He was implicitly, and understood His mission (Isaiah 52:15, 53:4,5)) so He will sprinkle many nations. Kings will shut their mouths because of Him, For they will see what not been told them, and they will understand what they heard. [53:4,5]4 Yet He Himself bore our sicknesses, and He carried our pains, yet in turn regarded Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced because of our transgressions, crushed because of our iniquities; punishment for our peace was upon Him, and we are healed by His wounds.
