ADVERSITY TO THE GOSPEL

What would Jesus do?

Luke 4:20-21 Then He rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. 21 He began saying to them, “Today as you listen, the scripture has been fulfilled (HCSB)

Your greatest adversaries of the Gospel are those nearest you. Why? Biases. Their opinion of you is based on the Old you before giving your life to Christ, The philanderer, the drunkard… And though you don’t want to judge them, you don’t want to be known as the hypocrite, yet the two are inevitable.
Then there is the, “I don’t believe God would allow evil, and It’s always “Those Christians.” And at that moment, you want nothing more than to whip out your sword of truth, and start unloading scripture. Right? Jesus faced the same adversities when He went back to Nazareth:…”Isn’t that Joseph’s son?,” Aren’t you the same?….
Your faith will be challenged 23 Then He said to them, “No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me,: ’Doctor, Heal yourself. He knew that how He responded would affect their impression of Him and the advancement of the Gospel.photo (4)

Word and deed.

James 1:22 Tells us to be “Doers and not only hearers of the word,” To be a person of your convictions; To go after your aspirations To show them what our faith looks like. But do so in the humility of Christ, in a way edifying to Him, according to they way were taught
4 endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.5 This hope will not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given us (Romans 5:4)

THE POWDER KEG

Resolving conflict to move forward

Unresolved conflict is a detriment to our spiritual growth as Christians, Everything the Gospels teach us about what Jesus died for is affected and countered by our inability to move past our mistakes. Ezra 4:4 Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah frightened them from building (NASB) In order to move past them, we must identify and expose them for what they are. For instance, “Guilt” matured is condemnation-The chains that bind, the resounding voice within that tells us how unworthy we are. Jesus Christ was victorious on the cross and we’ve become heirs to that victory.

James 1:20 tells is that apart from Christ, we are forever bound by the anger and frustration that keeps us from moving forward [1:20] man does not achieve the righteousness of God
Pent up and festering anger is a certain catastrophe looking for somewhere to happen. The inherent danger of unresolved conflict is instability and volatility, the unprovoked lashing out at the unsuspecting (We know it as abuse). We certainly want to keep our anger in check because this dragon has two heads. Anger directed inward become addictions. In search of resolve and comfort, we go looking (Default) to our own devices, these things we are most familiar with: Alcohol, drugs, sex, any semblance of God’s peace.

I want to move past this and enjoy the genuine peace of the Lord, but,

Romans 7:14-15 14 for we know the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold to the bondage of sin. 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am doing the very thing I hate. We keep ending up where we started, revisiting our vomit Proverbs 26:11 Like a dog that returns to its vomit Is a fool who repeats his folly(My apologies if you just eaten).
When we look for resolve of our own, we keep spinning and toiling only to make matters worse. Isaiah 43:18 says to forget the past, don’t to dwell there, (Phil 4:4) to look toward the Lord and rejoice. His word says to go make peace with our past: Matthew 5:24 leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.12144powder_keg

My Prayer.

Father God, Thank you for blessing me with this message on moving ahead, to claim my victory in you over these things that bind me to my past. Strengthen me and steady my feet as I work through these things, that I may experience the glory you have set aside for me. I pray that this message would resonate and prompt others to make peace with the past and go after their glory in you. Lead me, guide me, and protect me. In your mighty name, Amen

“THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION”

Move past the pain

“Everything is 20/20 hindsight”- That favorite cliché thrown out there (Usually by someone close to you) to lessen the pain of the consequences of your poor decisions. Friends and family have the best intentions but are biased- though we cannot be certain what they say lines up with scripture: I’d surmise that it to mean, “I’m so sorry, I hope you learned your lesson and never do that again.” I wonder if I stubbed my toe on a rock if I’d feel any better?
The reality is, in our present state, we are all flawed-“Perfectly flawed”- and make mistakes. We will continue to do so until the day of out redemption. The key is to keep from making the same (Mistakes) over and over.

Have you ever wondered why Moses wandered in the desert for forty years?God create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me Psalm 51:10

SO WHAT, How does this apply to me?

Our assignment this week is to allow the healing to begin, starting with these areas: Then take these, and bless someone else in the same way.

FORGIVE YOURSELF. The Lord almighty has forgiven you and pardoned of your sins, surely
you can forgive ourselves
Romans 5:16 And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, resulting in justification.

BE SURE FOOTED. This way we can stop making the same mistakes over and over again. Watch that you don’t wander away from the grace of the Lord- you may be tempted to revisit your vomit. Keep a short account of your sons;
Titus 3:5Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
5 He saved us not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to His mercy,
Through the washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Finally,

SEEK WISE COUNSEL Friends and family have the best intentions but are biased and may not provide the best advice. Proverbs 19:20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life.

THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY AND FOREVER (Hebrews 13:8)

(Deuteronomy 30:11-12) 11 This command that I give you today is certainly not too difficult or beyond your reach. 12 It is not on heaven so that you have to ask,

The same yesterday, today and forever

The same yesterday, today and forever

’Who will go up to heaven, get it for us and proclaim it to us so that we may follow it? (HCSB)

Those who went before you bore witness to my faithfulness- they have reaped the bounty of my greatness and experienced the fulfillment of my wrath for breaking My covenant. I make this same covenant with you so that you too will have access to these provisions and be sure to keep and follow my laws and this covenant.
Our comfort and steadfastness in our faith comes in the knowledge that this covenant made 40 years earlier at Sinai carried the same weight when God’s people prepared to move into the promise land, and 2,000 years later, we are in the same covenant relationship and have the same access to out Lord Jesus Christ and all His glory.

(Deuteronomy 30:14) But the message is very near you, in your mouth and on your heart so that you may follow it

AMAZING GRACE

“It is a gift” and not from yourself

Romans 8:26-27Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

26 In the same way, the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. 27 And He who searches the heart knows the Spirit’s mind-set because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Consider this

Is the Grace of God a Christian’s right of passage? Absolutely Not! It is God’s desire to reconcile man back to Himself-His ultimate display of affection to cause us to want the same (John3: 16). We run into trouble in our faith walk when we believe the Saving Grace of the Lord is an entitlement and there is no “Trade Off” required for our salvation: For I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven- Forever struggle to bridge the chasm (Matthew 5:20).
Unless we pick up our cross, we aren’t worthy of following Him (Matthew 10:38).
What does that look like and wh

1 Cor. 1:9 God is faithful, You were called by Him into fellowship with Hus son Jesus Christ our Lord (HCSB)

ere do we begin? The baggage we come with is so overwhelming: Come broken, and willing to do His good works: [28] “What can we do to perform the works of God? They asked. [29] Jesus replied, ”This is the work of God-That you believe on the one He has sent (John 6:28-29)

Cross references:

8:26 : Mt 20:22; But Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” “We are able they said to Him. “Cup” is a metaphor for suffering, This scripture was directed to the disciples and anyone who would choose to follow Jesus.

(2Co 12:8) Concerning this, I pleaded with the Lord three times to take it away from me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness, Therefore I will gladly boast all the more about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. “No” is an answer, His answer(s) may not always line up with our expectations, but we must have faith that He has our best interest at heart.

THE CHALLENGES OF BEING A CHRISTIAN

Phil 1:12-18

12Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has actually resulted in the advance of the gospel,13so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard, and to everyone else, that my imprisonment is in the cause of Christ. 14Most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my imprisonment and dare even more to speak the message, and dare even more to speak the message fearlessly. 15To be sure, some preach Christ out of envy and strife, but others out of good will.16These do so out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel; 17the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely, seeking to cause me anxiety in my imprisonment. 18 What does it matter? Just that in every way, whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice (HCSB)

Consider this
As the Gospel was being taken throughout Philippi, there was concern among the workers about how the people were praying to God. While many prayed for success of the Gospel, there were those who weren’t very good stewards of God’s word. Was Paul upset? He was concerned, that they didn’t share the same enthusiasm as he and the disciples did [17] the others proclaim Christ out of rivalry not sincerely, seeking to cause me anxiety in my imprisonment
But,
Paul tells them, “Don’t be swayed,” Remember your assignment. I am actually inspired that even in my imprisonment the Gospel is being preached [1:12]. He tells them to look for the silver lining in this bad situation [18] What does it matter? Just that in every way,Whether out of false motives or true, Christ is proclaimed. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice. I Will Rejoice that in my season of advancing the Gospel, deerthese chains that once bound me as my testimony to the steadfastness of God’s love for those who love Him

Remember,

The fact that they deny God, is to admit THERE IS A GOD to deny!

Be Blessed
