Everything about the Roman Empire was/is an outward expression of power and wealth; their jewelry, loricae (armor), garments and architecture, everything. These temple complex stones Herod marveled over were huge (40 ft.), and inlaid with gold, and served as a reminder of Rome’s prosperity, power and might.
